Frequently Asked Questions

Hypnosis

What is hypnosis?

A state of relaxation and concentration at one with a state of heightened awareness induced by suggestion. It is a non-addictive power for good and is a natural manifestation of the mind at work.

North Stifford Village

Are there some people you cannot hypnotize?

Yes.   Persons with learning difficulties, although of course the degree varies from person to person.  The only other exceptions would be persons 'high' on the effects of alcohol or drugs,  and very young children.

Everyone else can be hypnotized.

Are drugs or tablets used?

No.

Shall I be aware of what is happening?

Yes. Most people are surprised to find they can remember what has happened during the therapy.  The state is one of heightened awareness - not diminished awareness.

So I'm not asleep then?

No, you are simply extremely relaxed.

Is there any cause at all for concern?

None whatsoever. Hypnosis is a proven therapeutic aid.

Can I speak whilst in hypnosis?

Yes, in hypno-analysis you would be encouraged to do so.

How many visits will I need?

Simple problems, such as smoking usually require a single session. Nail biting, slimming, pre-test nerves, fear of flying etc vary between 1 - 4 sessions. The more deep-rooted nervous disorders require 'analytical' rather than 'suggestion' therapy which usually consists of  8 - 12 weekly sessions.

Can I be influenced to do anything against my will or nature?

No. In fact you would be shocked out of the hypnotic state immediately if any such action was suggested to you.

Can "normal" people be psycho-analysed?

Not only can be, but should be. For an insight into yourself, it has no equal.
